Book on auditing launched pg 3
A book entitled Auditing, Theory and Practice (The Auditing Compendium) has been launched in Accra.
The 670-page book written by the Vice-Rector of the Pentecost University, Prof. Kwame Bosiako Omane-Antwi is expected to be a guide to professional accountants and auditors and also shape the general landscape of auditing in the country.
It covers the appointment of auditors, their remuneration, audit management, internal control issues, and risk assessment, internal audit, international auditing standards among other topics.
Prof Omane-Antwi said the Pentecost University sponsored book facilitates bridging the gap between the academia and the corporate world.
He indicated that the book would go a long way towards sharpening the knowledge of students and practitioners to play their watchdog role in a professional manner adding that effective auditing practice promotes good governance.
Prof Omane-Antwi said accountants could also rely on the book to appreciate the work of auditors.
Launching the book, the acting Auditor-General, Mr Richard Quartey said auditing services were based on the application of professional judgment on a range of subjective matter.
He explained that auditing financial statements required an auditor, whether in the public or private sectors to make an assessment as to the acceptability of the accounting policies adopted by management in the preparation of the statement.
“It is in exercising a professional judgment in this area that the auditor’s independence can most severely be challenged”
He stated that the book covered all conceivable aspects of the auditing compendium and the various areas an auditor should be conversant with.
“The chapters travel through time, examining ancient and modern concepts of auditing, auditing perceptions, practices and conventions as well as emerging standards.” He added.
Mr Quartey recommended the book to students, professionals and non-professionals alike who want to update their knowledge on auditing.
