“We will also continue to maintain consistently high product quality and ensure we meet or exceed the expectations of our cherished customers.”
He said there were plans far advanced to secure more local raw materials to compliment what already exist at Yongwa in the Eastern region.
He said as part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility, it has earmarked 30,000 bags of cement for its Ghana Cement Foundation with the aim of assisting very needy health and educational institutions in addition to support for local communities engaged in raw material mining for the company.
The Commercial Manager of Ghacem, Mr Erik Westerberg, for his part said the global economic meltdown affected the company as it recorded “virtually no growth in cement consumption in 2009”
He said in order to ensure the competitive cost of its products, the company had deployed a number of its trucks for transport support at preferential rates on selected routes in the Greater Accra region noting that the service would be extended to other parts of the country.
Mr Westerberg said the company has also introduced an improved dispatch routine based on guaranteed volume which had increased significantly Ghacem cement on the local market.
The Chairman of the United Cement Distributors Association of Kumasi, Nana Owusu Ansah, appealed to the comapny to ensure that its bid to reduce the cost of the products through the provision of transport does not collapsed the private transport business.
He urged the company to expand its guaranteed volume system, improve upon communication with the distributors as well as offer quality
product.
