NDC launches manifesto on Thursday (page 16)
THE National Democratic Congress (NDC) is girding its loins for the launch of the party’s manifesto at Ho in the Volta Region on Thursday, October 4, 2012.
The event, which will take place at the Volta Regional Capital, will be on the theme: “Advancing the Better Ghana Agenda: NDC working for you.”
Key personalities expected to grace the occasion include President John Dramani Mahama, Vice-President Mr Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, and other leading members of the party.
Speaking to the Daily Graphic, the Mahama 2012 Campaign Coordinator, Mr Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, said President Mahama would highlight thematic areas in the manifesto which include education, job creation, health, the economy, agriculture and energy.
He said the event would also be used to highlight promises the party made in 2008 and its achievement.
“Our manifesto is based on concrete, realistic and workable proposals on keys issues confronting the country,” he added.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is scheduled to launch its manifesto at Ho in the Volta Region to officially tell Ghanaians about what it has in store for the country’s development agenda in the next four years.
The choice of Ho as the venue for the launch of the Manifesto is significant in many ways. First, the Volta Region has since 1992 been the ‘World Bank’ of the party offering unflinching support for the NDC.
Secondly, the event in the region is expected to consolidate the foothold of the party in the region due to recent grumblings in the region about the NDC.
Finally, it is also to send clear message to its opponents that the party is still strong in the region and would play a crucial part if the party is to retain power.
In 2008, the NDC Better Ghana manifesto highlighted key points under sub themes on crusade against corruption, human safety and security, women and governance, law and justice and combating narcotics.
Other issues were agricultural development, mining, health care, education, transportation, as well as management of the energy sector.
So far two parties-the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) have launched their manifestos.
