Unpusblished: GIFEC presents computers to Kofi Annan Centre

The Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) has presented 30 desktop computers and 10 laptops worth $60,000 to the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping and Training Center (KAIPTC).

The presentation  is to  strengthen  the information communication (ICT) capacity of the center.
The presentation is also part of GIFEC’s ‘Security Connectivity Project’ which is aimed  at  improving  the quality of services, encouraging innovations in technology development, using  of technology and general work flows to  promote information sharing.

Making the presentation, the Chief Executive Officer of GIFEC, Mr Kofi Attor, said the fund was aware of the crucial role the center was playing in training peacekeepers and election monitors across Africa.

He said a strengthened ICT facility at the center would ensure that the KAIPTC was open to the world.

The GIFEC was established in 2004 as an implementing agency of the Ministry of Communications to facilitate the spread of ICT use in rural Ghana; train rural schoolchildren and teachers in the use of ICT; and empower rural communities by providing access to information and decision-making processes at the local and national levels

In that regard, Mr Attor said, GIFEC was putting in a lot of effort to ensure that it achieved the desired result.

The Commandant of the KIPTC, Air Vice Marshal Christian, Edem K. Dovlo,  said the center  over the last 10 years had been very active in providing training aimed at conflict prevention.

He expressed appreciation to GIFEC for the donation and stated that it would go a long way towards improving the ICT capacity of the center.

He said the presentation was the first time the KAIPTC had received support from a Ghanaian organisation.“This presentation opens doors for us to enagage with the private sector in promoting the work of the KAIPTC,” he added.
