Manya Krobo Traditional Council honours Kwashie, Thursday, November 25, 2010, pg 35
THE Manya Krobo Traditional Council has conferred the highest title of the area on Mr E.T Kwashie, a patron of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana, for his contributions to the development of the area.
The title, Klomahefalor, which means “Defender of the state,” mandates Mr Kwashie, whose stool name is Nene Azago Kwesitsu I, to perform roles including the responsibility to defend the boundaries of Manya Krobo in consultation with the Paramount chief of the area, Nene Sakite II.
Nene Kwesitsu I will also pursue the Volta River Authority (VRA) for money due to the Manya Krobo.
Additionally, he will be recognised as a member of the traditional council where he will be expected to give frequent reports on his assignments to the Konor and quarterly reports to the traditional council.
Speaking to the Daily Graphic, Nene Sakite said Nene Kwesitsu was honoured because he had demonstrated over the years that he had the interest of the community at heart and had the capacity to assist Manya Krobo to pursue its development agenda.
“Before you appoint someone to a position, you know he or she can do it and I am glad to say that his achievements in this community and beyond speak for themselves,” he stressed.
Nene Sakute said “If there is an issue that needs my attention, I can call on him to do that on my behalf because he has the knowledge and the willingness to pursue our interest.”
Nene Kwesitsu, for his part, told the Daily Graphic that top on his priorities would be to ensure that all persons, groups or companies tapping mineral resources from Manya Krobo lands pass through due process.
According to him, even though lime stone was being mined in the area, no loyalty was paid to owners of the lands, for that matter the Manya Krobo Traditional Council.
“We are not going to allow ourselves to be cheated on our own land. We do not want what happened in the Niger Delta Region of Nigeria to happen here. They must respect the dignity and honour of the people of Manya Krobo,” Nene Kwesitsu said.
He pledged his support for the development of agriculture in the area through the mobilisation of the chiefs and the youth in Manya Krobo for a sustained food production to ensure food security.
